Recipe for Turtle Brownie Recipe
Do you have a chocolate craving? Add a caramel craving to the chocolate craving and you have Turtle Brownies. Make this recipe healthier by using a butter substitute. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 box Dunkin Hines German chocolate cake mix
- 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
- 1 6-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
- 1 bag caramels
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
Directions
Combine dry cake mix with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Press half of mixture
into greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Unwrap
caramels and melt with remaining 1/3 evaporated milk.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over partially-baked brownie base. (You don't have to let this partially-baked brownie base cool before adding chocolate chips.) Sprinkle on walnuts. Pour caramel mixture over top.
Pat reserved cake mixture into flat pieces with your hands. Lay randomly on top of caramel. Bake at 350 degrees 20-25 minutes. Let cool, and serve!
Recipe for Gingerbread Cookie Recipe
Gingerbread Cookies are a favorite around Christmas time. You can decorate the little guys and girls with gum drop buttons and frosting. If you have a craving for them outside the holiday season, use this recipe and forgo the frosting for a healthier treat.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or an alternative like margarine or vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup Splenda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large Eggland's Best egg
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- Candies and frostings for decorating if desired
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat shortening margarine in a mixing bowl on high speed for 30 seconds. Add Splenda, baking powder, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves. Beat until combined, scraping bowl occasionally.
Mix in the molasses, egg, and vinegar until well combined. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour. Divide dough in half. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, and chill for at least 3 hours.
Grease a cookie sheet with butter or margarine. On a lightly floured surface roll the dough to 1/8 inch thick for 2 and 1/2 round cookies and the dough to 1/4 inch for 6 inch gingerbread people cookies. Cut dough with your favorite cookie cutters.
Place cookies 1 inch apart on baking sheet. Bake round cookies for 5 to 6 minutes and gingerbread people cookies for 6 to 8 minutes. Edges of cookies should be lightly browned. Cool cookies for 1 minute on cookie sheet then transfer to wire rack and cool completely.
